Questions about this conversion

Will transparency survive a PNG to JPG conversion?

No. JPEG has no alpha channel. Transparent pixels are filled with the background colour in Settings, white by default.

Why is the JPG smaller than the PNG?

JPEG is lossy. Photos usually shrink a lot at quality 85. Flat graphics and screenshots can look softer; PNG or WebP keeps those sharper.

Is the original PNG uploaded?

The conversion runs in your browser. The file is sent to the server only if this browser cannot encode JPEG, which is rare.
